Comedy club hit by burglars in bizarre masks who ransacked the pub

A devastating break-in by callous thieves in funny masks has been no laughing matter for a much-loved comedy venue.

The Rubber Chicken was forced to temporarily close after the brazen robbery days out from the International Comedy Festival.

The South Melbourne pub is struggling to recover from the pandemic, which included six lockdowns in Melbourne.

Two men were caught on CCTV storming and ransacking the Moray Street premises around 5.30am Wednesday.

One of the robbers who disguised his face with a rubber lion mask used tools to break open and damage the point of sale system at the bar.

While the brazen pair fled with only a small amount of cash, the extent of damage means the venue has had to close for its biggest three nights of the week.

‘It’s a sad day, two p***ks jumped over a wall and jimmied open a back door,’ owner Morry Morgan explained in a video uploaded on social media.

‘The good news is we have them all on video footage and got their fingerprints.

‘So, the only problem is they smashed our cash registers trying to get money, which means we can’t trade until Sunday.’

Mr Morgan issued a passionate call to arms for Melburnians to show their support.

‘Please come down to The Rubber Chicken so our staff can get paid a salary and kampus terbaik Di Lampung we can put staff on,’ he said.

‘They won’t be on for the next few days because of the break-in.’

A devastated Mr Morgan said the burglary couldn’t have come at a worse time and the pub would miss out on three nights of trading from its professional stand-up comedy sessions held every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
